How does UVC LED light (254/365nm) harm the human body and how to protect it?

In order to understand the harm of ultraviolet rays to the human body more intuitively, let me first introduce the basic knowledge of ultraviolet rays (UV). Ultraviolet (UV) contains three brothers: UVA/UVB/UVC.

UV SERIES

Each band has a different personality. Only UVA and UVC are carried out here; 254nm belongs to the UVC band, while 365nm belongs to the UVA band. Ultraviolet light has a short wavelength but high energy. The damage to the human body is different from the two, so I will talk about them separately.

The comparison chart of ultraviolet sterilization ability of different wavelength bands First, 254nm: 254nm is the band with the best sterilization effect, which belongs to the deep ultraviolet band, which is what we usually call UVC. This band is mainly used for sterilization. By destroying the genetic material such as DNA of bacteria and viruses, UVC changes the genetic transcription characteristics of cells, so that the organism loses the ability to synthesize and reproduce proteins, and can kill more than 99% of bacteria in a very short period of time. You need to be extra careful when you are in contact with this frequency band in daily operations, and the human body is very harmful. In the eye in particular, after UVC is absorbed by the cornea, the DNA of the corneal epithelial cells is damaged, the cells die, and the underlying nerve plexus is exposed. After the nerve is exposed, pain is transmitted directly to the brain until new corneal epithelial cells grow and re-cover the nerve plexus. However, although the UVC force value is very strong, it also has weaknesses. Its biggest disadvantage is its weak penetration ability, which can be blocked by ordinary plastic and glass. If you are accidentally exposed to ultraviolet rays in this band, it is best to go to the hospital and ask your doctor for advice. After talking about 254nm, let's talk about 365nm: 365nm is UVA, which belongs to shallow ultraviolet. UVA can directly pass through the clouds and reach the earth, so the sun we are in daily contact with contains a lot of UVA. This band is mainly used for curing in daily life, and the main application fields are printing, nail art, textile and so on. When we look at the teeth, this light uses UVA.

Compared with UVC, UVA is relatively mild and does not cause acute eye damage. But it is also harmful to tan, sun wrinkled skin, and accelerate the progression of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. Therefore, for the 365nm UV lamp, do sunscreen, and do not look directly into your eyes!
