    Why driverless 220vac cob leds have flickering under the camera?

    The flickering you see when filming driverless 220V AC COB LEDs (also known as direct AC LEDs) under a camera is primarily due to the way they are powered. Here's a breakdown of why it happens:


    🔌 Why It Flickers:

    1. AC Power Frequency (50/60 Hz)

    AC power cycles 50 or 60 times per second (depending on your region).

    A driverless AC LED rectifies the AC current to power the LEDs, but usually doesn't smooth the voltage completely.

    As a result, the LED light output also fluctuates with the AC waveform-usually twice per cycle due to full-wave rectification (so 100Hz or 120Hz flicker).

    2. Human Eye vs. Camera

    Our eyes usually can't detect this flicker because it's too fast.

    But cameras with high frame rates or fast shutter speeds (like in smartphones or DSLRs) do capture the flicker, especially when the shutter speed is faster than 1/100s.

    3. No Capacitors or Drivers

    Driverless COB LEDs usually skip the use of capacitors or constant current drivers to keep costs low and design compact.

    That makes them more prone to ripple and flicker since there's no smoothing of the current.

    🔧 Can It Be Fixed?

    1. Add a Driver or Capacitor

    Use a constant current driver or add capacitive filtering to stabilize the current.

    2. Use Flicker-Free LED Products

    Some premium COB LEDs are "flicker-free" or use built-in circuits to smooth the current.

    These are designed specifically for photography, videography, or office/studio environments.
