Use experience of LED succulents fill light

Nov 26, 2021

Succulent plant supplement light is a life-saving straw for those who like succulents because the environment lacks light, so I decided to write down a little bit of my experience. If it is too much, it is blood and tears. It is still very troublesome to use, time-consuming, expensive and labor-intensive, and the best results cannot be obtained. Fill light is not a shortcut, it is just a concession of infinite love to limited conditions. Instead of placing hope on it, it is better to think about how to find a more sunny environment.

I declare in advance that I am a pure liberal arts student and do not understand optics/botany at all. The content of this article is purely driven by curiosity + search engine + personal experience, and is only for Crassulaceae (mainly E, G, P genera). If there is any fault, please professional people to correct me. First give a conclusion to the party, the reason will be explained later.

  1) The fill light can only be used as a temporary fill light, and cannot completely replace sunlight.

  2) The supplementary light is suitable for situations where the natural light is insufficient in a short period of time (not more than 2 months every six months), such as overwintering/summer/plum rain, etc. If your rearing environment does not have enough natural direct light throughout the year (such as indoors facing east and west), then you are not suitable for raising most of the sedum plants, please find another preference.

  3) The common red and blue LED plant fill light has a similar effect on scattered light, and there is almost no effect on the growth and prevention of overgrowth of succulent plants, and of course it will not die if used.

  4) If you want to maintain the normal photosynthetic effect of Succulents, please use Succulents fill light. High wattage can be farther away. The maximum cover size is a circle with the length of the tube as the diameter. Use time 8-12 hours a day, do not open at night. The lamp life is 12 months.

5) If you want to be succulent, healthy, firm, not lengthy, and colored, you need UVB lamps in addition to photosynthetic lamps, please use Fanke (brand) UVB10.0, the price is 200-300, do not use other brands, hang With a height of 50cm, the bulb needs to be equipped with a special spotlight cover, and the covering area is almost 50cm square. The use time is 2-5 hours a day, and the initial time needs to gradually extend the irradiating time from half an hour a day. If you start to irradiate for a long time, it may cause burns. The lamp life is 12 months.

  6) It is very convenient for the above two lamps to cooperate with a socket with timer function.

  7) For most people who need fleshy lights, you need electric fans/exhaust fans. Compared to dying due to lack of light, your meat is more likely to die from diseases and insects due to the lack of air circulation.

Please read the above 1 and 2 again. Regarding succulents, natural direct light is always the best and most irreplaceable. If you can't give her the best, let her go.

Regarding the succulents and fats, flower friends have many questions, such as how to fatten the succulents, what kind of fertilizer to apply to the succulents, liquid fertilizer irrigation or slow-release fertilizers, etc. The editor has answered the above doubts and shared them with you (for reference only) ).

Succulent planting

1. What fertilizer should be used for succulents

①Special granular slow-release fertilizer, this kind of fertilizer will gradually release fertility as the temperature rises, and will not directly burn the roots.

② Nitrogen fertilizer promotes the flourishing of trees, adding chlorophyll, and strengthening nutrient growth; too much nitrogen fertilizer will result in soft arrangements, long stems and leaves, susceptible to damage by diseases and insects, and reduced cold tolerance; lack of nitrogen fertilizer will result in thin plants, yellow-green leaves, and slow growth. flowering.

The nitrogen element mainly comes from the nitrogen in the air, and it dissolves in rainwater after oxidation reaction. If the rainwater is exposed to too much, the fleshy will grow excessively. Contains ammonium bicarbonate, urea, ammonium nitrate, ammonia, sodium chloride, ammonium sulfate, etc.

③ Phosphate fertilizer makes the stems and branches of trees tough, promotes the formation of flower buds, and makes the flowers large and bright, and can make the succulents grow and develop outstanding, produce more new roots, improve cold and drought resistance; lack of phosphate fertilizers, trees grow slowly, with small leaves, branches or tillers Cut, the flowers and fruits are small, mature and late, the veins of the lower leaves first yellow and then appear purple-red.

Phosphorus mainly comes from tap water, although the content is low, as long as you are not breeding for succulent flowering, it is enough for succulents. Contains general calcium phosphate, calcium magnesium phosphate, etc. Animal bones are also rich in phosphorus, so mixing a small amount of bone meal in the pelvic floor can promote fleshy roots.

④ Potassium fertilizer can make the stems of trees strong, improve the ability of resistance to diseases and insects, cold resistance, drought resistance and lodging resistance, promote root prosperity and bulb enlargement, and can promote fruit expansion and excellent color;

Potassium deficiency can cause tree leaf edges to appear necrotic and mottled. At first, the lower old leaves appear mottled, and the leaf edges and leaf tips begin to turn yellow, followed by scorching and necrosis;

Excessive potassium fertilizer will cause shortening of internodes, dwarfing of the whole plant, yellowing of leaves, wilting, and even death.

Potassium mainly comes from granular soils such as red jade soil and volcanic rock. There are not many applications now, the main varieties are potassium chloride, potassium sulfate, potassium nitrate and so on.

2. When will succulents become fat?

Generally speaking, fertilizers are selected during the growth and flowering period. The fertilizer application during the flowering period is the beginning of the emergence of the foil, once every half a month, and is applied together with watering.

It has always been applied to the seeding pod and so experienced. Individuals who need to control the flowering period and harmonious flowering time can do less or not.

3. Where is the fat on the succulents

Base fertilizer: It is directly mixed into the soil when planting. Commonly used are plant ash, bone meal, shell powder, decomposed poultry manure, etc., because most types of succulents like soil with a certain amount of calcareous, so it can be mixed in the soil with an appropriate amount. Calcareous materials such as bone meal and eggshell powder.

Top dressing: Succulents have a lot of nutritional needs in a certain period (flowering period) to make up for the lack of base fertilizer. It should be carried out according to the differences of different species and growth periods.

Slow-release fertilizers, organic fertilizers, etc. can be buried in the soil or placed on the surface of the soil, and liquid fertilizers need to be sprayed on the leaves or roots.

4. What varieties are fattened by succulents?

Fertilization of succulents needs to be carried out at different seasons according to the difference of species.

Summer is the peak season for most types of succulents such as Agaveaceae, Cactaceae, Apocynaceae, Asclepiaceae, etc. However, the Lithopaceae, Lithops, Trifolium, and Liliaceae of the Apricotaceae The "winter-type" succulents that grow in cold seasons such as Vientiane and Yufan of the genus Wawei (Twelve-volume genus) gradually enter the dormant or semi-dormant period, and their growth is completely blocked or extremely slow, and they require little nutrition. .

Therefore, the "summer type" must be given sufficient water and fertilizer supply, and the "winter type" must stop applying fertilizer to avoid the formation of rotten roots; and after September, the "winter type" succulents will gradually begin to grow, and attention should be paid Apply fertilizer to provide sufficient nutrients and promote the growth of plants. "Summer type" succulents gradually enter a dormant state, and the application of fertilizer must be stopped.

5. How to apply fertilizer to succulents

The upper fertilizer is generally rather light than thick, and can be applied a few times when needed. The amount of fertilizer applied to succulents can be appropriate according to the volume and the amount of water applied each time.

The soil in the basin should be completely dry before applying fertilizer. It is better to loosen the soil and then apply fertilizer.

Fertilizer varieties should be selected according to the plant variety and growth stage. Generally, nitrogen fertilizer is the main fertilizer during the seedling stage, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer are the main fertilizer during the flower bud differentiation and flowering and fruiting period. More nitrogen fertilizer can be used in spring, and less nitrogen fertilizer should be applied before overwintering.

Succulents with more leaves can be slightly more nitrogen fertilizer, while stem-like succulents and globular palm plants should be based on phosphorus and potassium fertilizer.

Flowering fertilizer is mainly phosphate fertilizer and potash fertilizer, supplemented by other elements, and it is best to apply it in liquid form to take effect quickly. You can choose professional flower fertilizers such as Huayou and Huaduoduo, and you can also directly apply potassium dihydrogen phosphate.

The application rate is controlled at around 1:2000, which is 1 gram of fertilizer with 2 kg of water. Here I want to clarify again that some big immortals would think that the proportion of 1:1000 is more appropriate, but that is in the greenhouse and greenhouse cultivation environment, the plant grows vigorously to be able to use this concentration, in the home environment, the plant absorbs nutrients much faster than the greenhouse and Greenhouse, so it can be as light as possible.

6. Precautions for succulents

① Newly potted plants, those with poor growth, damaged roots, wounded stems and leaves, and self-cultivating plants that have been rust-colored after being damaged by red spiders, are not allowed to be fertilized.

②The organic fertilizer must be fully decomposed before it can be used.

③The young seedlings just unearthed should not be fertilizered within 1 month.

④Don't use odorous fertilizers in cities.

⑤ Broth, vegetable juice and fresh milk and soy milk containing salt should not be used as fertilizer.

⑥Do not buckle fresh egg shells on the pot soil as fertilizer.
