Is the curing effect of UV LED related to the color of UV ink?
When certain yellow pigments are used in a photoinitiated system composed of acrylates and amines, the color of the ink will change greatly. The more difficult to cure pigments are black, white, phthalocyanine and yellow pigments. White and black show two extreme phenomena. White reflects light completely, and black does not reflect light at all.
People even think that it is impossible to cure UV light through a film with a certain thickness and opaque to the light, but optimizing the curing conditions will make it possible to cure UV inks containing pigments. Some problems are It can be solved or improved by selecting photoinitiators and pigments according to the absorption characteristics of the pigments to UV light, or by adjusting the UV light source to reduce the effect of curing the pigments.
Different pigments have different characteristics of light absorption, reflection and scattering, so the degree of hindrance to UV curing is also different. Most pigments have a certain transmittable area in part of the UV light and visible light range, which is called the "pigment" Spectral window", in which the photoinitiator can fully absorb UV light radiation energy. Therefore, determining the position of the window is very important for selecting a suitable photoinitiator. In other words, the photoinitiator should match the pigment in the ink system and be in the wavelength range where the pigment absorbs UV light weakly. Therefore, when using UV inks, pay attention to carefully observe the relationship between the absorption spectrum of the pigment and the photoinitiator.
The curing speed of different colors of UV ink is different, because the wavelength of the light reflected by the pigment particles of various colors is different. The closer the reflected wavelength is to the wavelength of UV light, the slower the curing speed will be. The required UV light The higher the energy; conversely, the faster the curing speed, the lower the UV light energy required. Therefore, the UV curing speed must be adjusted for inks of different colors in order to reduce the effect of pigments on the curing of inks.
