TETOS Supplies Side Wiring Boards To Samsung Micro LED TVs

Jan 26, 2022

On January 17, South Korean media reported that TETOS, a small and medium-sized venture capital company in South Korea, announced that it would lead the core splicing process of Samsung’s Micro LED TV manufacturing process and supply LED components for Samsung’s Micro LED TVs. The goods are expected to be mass-produced in the first half of this year.

According to the data, TETOS was established in 2010 and is engaged in the development of electromagnetic shielding films, solderable and sputtering equipment for semiconductor packaging. Listed on the Korea Exchange for half a year.

In this cooperation, TETOS will be responsible for supervising the process of wiring on the side of the 12.7-inch glass substrate, that is, fabricating the current circuit on the side of the substrate through its self-developed three-dimensional sputtering method.

It is understood that since the size of Micro LED is very small, tens of millions of LEDs are needed to make a Micro LED TV. Therefore, it is necessary to make LED modules to improve the manufacturing efficiency of Micro LED TVs, and splicing LEDs into TV products according to the modular structure. The size of the TV is determined by the number of modules. For example, an 89-inch Micro LED TV requires 49 modules, and a 101-inch Micro LED TV requires 64 modules.

It can be seen that the splicing of modules is particularly important in the production of Micro LED TVs. Each LED module needs to be connected in four directions, up, down, left, and right, in order to send and receive signals smoothly. TETOS provides the connection wire between LED modules for Samsung Micro LED TV.

In the process, display companies make thin film transistors (TFTs) on glass substrates, TETOS adds circuit wiring on the side of the substrate, and Samsung Electronics completes the production and release of Micro LED TVs by transferring Micro LEDs to complete circuit boards.

TETOS CEO said that using the three-dimensional sputtering method, dozens or hundreds of Micro LED glass substrates can be seamlessly spliced, and Micro LED TVs can be freely expanded in size and shape.

Korean media revealed that TETOS is expected to supply a large number of side wiring boards in July. Micro LED TVs are expected to sell well by then, and are expected to increase from 15,000 units (calculated at 12.7 inches) in July this year to 100,000 units in 2023.

According to TrendForce's latest report "2022 Global LED Display Market Outlook and Price and Cost Analysis", Samsung plans to release the 76/89/101/110-inch Micro LED The Wall in 2022, using active drive and LTPS backplane technology. Previously, Korean media revealed that Samsung has proposed to AUO to purchase 12.7-inch LTPS for Micro LED The Wall. According to LEDinside, the chip used in the product is from Chichuang, and the size is 34x58μm. At present, Samsung has launched the 89/101/110-inch Micro LED The Wall TV at the CES 2022 exhibition.
