The 3D snowflakes in the flower beds of the Winter Olympics were 3D printed with urban solid waste

In the Winter Olympics-themed flower bed along Chang'an Street, there is a 3D printing black technology. This is a large flower bed with a height of 9.1 meters. The main scene is the emblems of the Winter Olympics and the Winter Paralympic Games. The blue and white "snowflakes" scattered on the ground are particularly eye-catching.

"The raw materials of these 'snowflakes' are urban solid waste, which is made by 3D printing technology after many complicated processes." said Jia Changchun, the producer of the snowflake sculpture and chairman of China Carbon Springfield (Beijing) Energy Technology Co., Ltd.

The "snowflakes" carry modern technology and the concept of zero-carbon environmental protection.

In order to help the "zero carbon" Winter Olympics, China Carbon Springfield developed and produced garden sketches, turning useless garbage into light and beautiful "snowflakes". The 3D printing solid waste technology it uses has the advantages of saving templates, materials, labor, and waste outbound transportation.

The largest snowflake has a diameter of 1.7 meters. In the design and printing, thickness, width, imitation and sturdiness should be considered. It is also necessary to consider that the 3D printed product can carry hidden pipelines and reinforcing ribs.

It is reported that after the display of flower beds along Chang'an Avenue is over, the "snowflakes" will be recovered and recycled.

3D scan-design-3D print, custom helmets for national snow team athletes

Under the organization of the State Sports General Administration, the 3D Printing and Intelligent Manufacturing Research Center of Dongguan University of Technology (Associate Professor Li Nan's team) joined hands with Sikan Technology, integrated 3D scanning-design-3D printing technology, and participated in the research project of helmet equipment customization for athletes of the National Snow Team.

The average speed of the snowmobile is about 100 kilometers per hour, and the maximum speed can reach 160 kilometers. It has always been known as F1 on ice. Its fast-paced racing process can bring people incomparably exciting sensory enjoyment, which is the biggest attraction of snowmobile racing. In such a high-speed state, the safety of athletes is the top priority. Helmet equipment is an important protective equipment to ensure the safety of snowmobile athletes.

△ 3D scanning and printing exclusive helmet

Previously, the helmets and equipment of the National Snow Team were mainly imported from abroad, getting rid of the dependence on equipment imports and participating in the competition with helmets independently developed and designed in China.

Due to the rich contour features of the human head, it is suitable to use the non-contact non-stick splicing technology. This time, the iReal 2E 3D scanner of Sikan Technology was selected to complete the acquisition of the 3D data of the athlete's head.

The iReal 3D scanner has high precision (up to 0.1mm), and can accurately obtain the 3D data of the athlete's head, and the helmet made of it has a good fit;

In the exclusive mode of portrait scanning, the human body shaking stack can be automatically removed; no sticking points are required during scanning, the light source is safe and invisible, and the entire scanning process is comfortable and safe;

In addition, its combined array structured light technology creatively solves the problem of difficult acquisition of hair and eye data, making head data more complete.

After using the iReal 2E 3D scanner to obtain accurate 3D data of the athlete's head, the design team can customize the design according to the athlete's head shape and tactical characteristics, and then use 3D printing technology to produce the final helmet product.

Using China Aerospace T800 carbon fiber and pure carbon fiber materials, the final helmet weight is 500g lighter than the previous generation of competition helmets, only about 1100g, which effectively reduces the weight of athletes.

At the same time, the buffer layer of the helmet adopts a lattice structure design, and the topol honeycomb structure protection system printed by Farsoon High-tech Flight TPU process creatively solves the problem of deformation of head details, and completes the perfect adaptation to the athlete's head shape, and It can bring extremely high heat flow efficiency.

3D printing to develop ski robot

Recently, a video of a ski robot has attracted a lot of attention. In the video, a four-legged robot is stepping on a ski, and there are two snowballs on the left and right sides. Swing side to side and slide down very skillfully, the action seems to exceed the level of most beginners.

It is worth noting that 3D printing technology is used in the design and manufacture of the ski robot. It can be seen from the figure that the outer shell and the covers of the limbs of the ski robot are manufactured by SLA 3D printing technology, and are sprayed and colored in the later stage. installed on the robot. Today, 3D printing technology has great efficiency and cost advantages in the manufacture of housings for this type of robotic product.

"We were invited to design the appearance and attitude of nine Winter Olympic robots. We have designed and modified dozens of times for their different functional forms, visual attitudes, and application scenarios. In the end, the Olympic Organizing Committee used the torch relay to be one of them. In addition to amphibious robots and underwater robots, there are also "intelligent shape" designs of flying robots, land six-wheel robots, climbing robots, ski robots, ice skating robots, curling robots and blind guide robots. It will be featured in the Winter Olympics ice and snow sports and the Winter Paralympic Games exhibition services, and will be applied to future life." Professor Xue said that each of these carefully designed and dressed intelligent robots has a different appearance and personality, and different application scenarios.

Zhang Yan, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Management, introduced that to welcome the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, there are 3 iconic landscapes, 10 themed flower beds, 620 landscape sketches, 280,000 cages of lighting, 18,000 propaganda flags, and more than 60,000 places. Promotional pictures and 28 light shows have been presented all over Beijing. At the same time, Spring Festival landscape sketches, red flags, colorful flags, and tree-wrapped lanterns were arranged in the back alleys and commercial blocks.

Zhang Yan introduced that in the urban landscape design, attention was paid to the integration of elements of the Winter Olympics such as the emblem, mascot, ice and snow patterns, and folk elements of the Spring Festival, such as Chinese knots, lantern lighting, and Chinese zodiac characters. "For example, the huge Chinese knot in Tiananmen Square, 17 meters high, is the perfect presentation of the Chinese knot inlaid with the Olympic emblem."

Three iconic landscapes, including the emblem sculpture of Jinyuan Bridge in Shijingshan District, the "Haituo Tower" in Yanqing District and the emblem of the Beijing-Li Expressway slope protection, will also be applied for as Olympic heritage.

Zhang Yan specially introduced that the production process of the Winter Olympics landscape also adhered to the principles of "thrift, waste utilization, and environmental protection", and made full use of the original facilities and waste. For example, lanterns and Chinese knots are made of environmentally friendly materials, and the use of 3D printing technology not only saves costs, but also perfectly presents details. Landscape sketches and lightings all use energy-saving light sources; those coverings that add beautiful colors to the city in winter were originally discarded branches of colorful plants, but they have been rejuvenated by the creative use of urban designers.

05 3D Printing Winter Olympics Stop Motion Animation

The British BBC recently released a short video of the Winter Olympics. The short video was named "Extreme by Nature". During the shooting process, 3D printing technology was used to create a single-frame model of stop-motion animation, and then it was shot with a special camera and post-production.

Professor Su Yanqing's team tested and optimized a variety of 3D printing materials, optimized the forming process of the torch's internal structure, and systematically verified and improved the burner 3D printing process. The combustion system ensures the reliability of the main torch combustion of the Winter Olympics.

The above are some of the 3D printing black technologies that appeared in this Winter Olympics, and there should be some uncounted applications. It is believed that with the development of 3D printing technology, it will play a greater role in large-scale events such as sports events in the future.
