Apple To Release OLED IPad in 2024, South Korean Factory LGD Actively Expands Production

Jan 25, 2022

Apple's iPad Pro tablet switched to Mini LED panels, which led to a surge in Mini LED shipments. However, Korean panel makers are eyeing it, preparing to expand production of small and medium-sized OLEDs and capture iPad orders.

More, Korean media ETNews reported on the 17th that last week, it was reported that Apple may release an iPad equipped with OLED panels in 2024. The panels will be supplied by Samsung, and Samsung is considering expanding production.

However, the latest news pointed out that LG Display (LGD) is more active. According to industry sources, LGD is planning facilities for the new sixth-generation OLED production line in Paju, South Korea. Both the P9 and P10 plants in Paju will install vapor deposition equipment to draw circuit diagrams on the glass substrates of display transistors. The company plans to order eight vapor deposition facilities from Canon, a Japanese company.

Once the core equipment is installed, LGD's sixth-generation OLED production capacity will double to 700,000 units per year in 2024. LGD's P9 factory produces OLED panels for smart phones, and its P10 factory produces panels for IT equipment such as tablets.

LGD's large-scale expansion of small and medium-sized OLEDs should be aimed at Apple's next-generation smart machines and tablet orders. The iPhone has been equipped with OLED panels in 2018, and the iPad is also expected to be used in the future. iMore pointed out that if the iPad Pro switches to OLED, it will have better picture quality and contrast, and it will be the best performing iPad.
