How to Achieve a Laser-Like White Beam with an LED?
Why Does Our White "Laser-Alike" SMD LED Have a 120° Beam Angle?
Many customers ask us:
"If your White Laser-Alike SMD LED has a 120° viewing angle, is it a real laser?"
The answer is No.
Our White Laser-Alike SMD LED is not a laser diode. It is a high-power white LED specially designed to produce a laser-like lighting effect under the right optical conditions, while maintaining all the advantages of an LED, such as high reliability, long lifetime, eye safety, and lower cost.
The key difference lies in the LED chip structure.
Unlike conventional horizontal or flip-chip LEDs, our product utilizes a vertical LED chip structure. This unique design provides a much higher center luminous intensity and a more concentrated optical output, making it ideal for narrow-beam optical systems.
Although the LED itself has a standard 120° emitting angle, the light can be effectively collimated when paired with a narrow-angle optical lens or reflector. If the optical lens or reflector has a beam angle of 15° or less (10° is even better), most of the emitted light is collected and projected forward instead of being scattered. As a result, the beam appears extremely concentrated and produces a visual effect very similar to that of a white laser beam.
For customers who want to achieve the strongest laser-like lighting effect, we highly recommend using:
Optical lenses with a beam angle of 10°–15°
Reflectors with a beam angle of 10°–15°
With the proper optical design, the beam becomes highly focused, providing excellent long-distance illumination and a laser-like appearance, while remaining an LED light source rather than a true laser.
