    ✅ Applications of Blue Light LEDs (Wavelength: 420–480nm):

    Dental Curing Lights

    The most common use. Blue light activates photoinitiators (e.g., Camphorquinone) in resin-based materials to initiate polymerization and harden the material.

    Used for: cavity fillings, making dental trays, veneers, etc.

    Teeth Whitening Devices

    Blue light is used in combination with whitening agents (e.g., hydrogen peroxide) to accelerate the whitening process.

    Dental Examination Lights / Headlamps

    High color rendering blue or cool white LEDs improve visibility in the oral cavity, helping dentists observe fine details more clearly.


    ✅ Applications of UV (Violet) LEDs (Wavelength: 365–405nm):

    Plaque Detection

    When exposed to UV light, dental plaque emits fluorescence (usually red or orange) due to bacterial metabolites such as phosphate.

    Used in devices for plaque visualization and distribution analysis.

    Crack and Caries Detection

    Microcracks or early-stage cavities may exhibit different fluorescence responses under UV light, aiding in early diagnosis.

    Sterilization (less common)

    Specific wavelengths of UVA or UVC have germicidal effects, though this application is less common in dental instruments and more typical in cleaning or experimental devices.

    Supports fluorescence detection (e.g. for caries or cracks), but not efficient for curing resins.
