Why we need to use EMC package instead of PCT or PPA package for the high power SMD LED?
When selecting a package for high-power Surface Mount Device (SMD) LEDs, the choice between EMC (Epoxy Molding Compound), PCT (Plastic Chip Carrier), or PPA (Polyphthalamide) packages is critical due to the thermal, mechanical, and optical requirements of high-power applications. Here's why EMC is often preferred over PCT or PPA for high-power SMD LEDs:
1. Thermal Stability and Heat Resistance
EMC: EMC packages are made from epoxy molding compounds that have excellent thermal stability and can withstand high temperatures (typically up to 150°C or higher). This is crucial for high-power LEDs, which generate significant heat during operation.
